The acclaimed cartoons appeared daily throughout World War II and so enraged Hitler that the cartoonist was put on his ‘hit-list’. Set aside time on your trip to Pendennis to view the cartoons in the Butterworth Gallery, and then why not try our hearty winter menu in the tearooms.

New for 2009!

Next year is the 500th aniversary of King Henry VIII coming to the throne, and English Heritage will have events going on at a few of its properties that have strong links to Henry VIII.

Henry's keep at Pendennis has a recreated Tudor gun deck for you to explore and there are also interactive exhibitions in the Governer's Lodge. There are also tours of the tunnels and battery which are suitable for groups.

Pendennis Castle Pendennis Castle c English Heritage Callie Saxty, Head of Visitor Operations says: "A highlight will be King Henry's Joust taking place on the weekend of the 30th and 31st August. It'll be full of majesty, pomp and pagentry as Henry VIII arrives here at Pendennis Castle. There will be actors, players, knights, soldiers and ladies accompanying the king and his queen as they are entertained with royal tournament displays and Tudor falconry. And each day you can see a duo of fully armoured knights  in full contact jousting."

The team at Pendennis Castle will organise special tours and talks which can be themed for special-interest groups and can provide costumed characters to add even more interest. Exclusive tours of the tunnels can be arranged and visits can end with a resounding bang as the Pedennis guns fire - this normally happens at noon each day in July and August but can be arranged at any time for pre-bboked groups.
