"Give it some welly!" at Belsay Hall
Families have the chance to get their feet dirty with garden themed fun and enjoy a great day out this half term, by ditching their smart shoes and heels in favour of a pair of wellington boots.
Visitors to Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens in Northumberland will get the chance to go welly mad with the launch of Welly Week, a special celebration of all weather fashions and gardening activities all in honour of the humble Wellington Boot. The week of events, organised by English Heritage will run from Monday May 26 until Sunday June 1.
Lynn Rylance, visitor operations manager for Belsay Hall at English Heritage, said: “Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens is a great day visit destination for the whole family, with grand gardens to explore, the magical quarry and majestic castle and hall, plus stables, tea room and shop all on one site. Welly Week champions the fact that people can enjoy a family day out at Belsay, whatever the weather, and we are celebrating this fact with a range of indoor and outdoor events taking place throughout the week.”
As part of the week, visitors are invited to a special wellington fashion show taking place on May 28 at 11.30 am, 2pm and 3.30pm, where they will be invited to get a glimpse of the new exciting range of wellington boots presented by local company Funky Welly Boots.
Sara McCann at Funky Welly Boots in Prudhoe, says "Models will don the latest range of wellies for adults and kids, with a themed dance finale to entertain the audience"
“We’re pleased to be working in conjunction with English Heritage on this, especially as Belsay boasts such a wonderful garden – an ideal venue to don a pair of wellies.”
Lynn added: “We are very excited to be working with a local company for Welly Week, and people will also be able to buy Funky Welly Boots on site during the week.”
Youngsters during the week will also be invited to join in a special welly design competition, with the chance of seeing their design turned into a real pair of wellies which they will keep.
A welly trail will run throughout the week giving people the chance to ‘have a go’ at exploring the gardens to find the welly clues and a fairy trail running from from Saturday May 24 to Sunday 1 June will give visitors a chance to search for model Victorian fairies hidden in the gardens.Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens and Funky Welly Boots will also be hosting a special ‘history of wellies’ exhibition where you can learn about the fact that wellies are not just for wearing. A welly walk led by one of the English Heritage gardeners on Friday May 30 from 11am to 1pm will give people a chance to get an exclusive guided tour of Belsay’s famous gardens.*
